There, I said it. I hate Twitter. For those unaware, Twitter describes itself as “a community of friends and strangers from around the world sending updates about moments in their lives.” It allows users to send and read other users’ messages and updates (called “tweets”), provided the messages are less than 140 characters long. In short, it’s a cross between cell phone texting and blogging, but primarily aimed at answering the question, “What are you doing?” Perhaps the best way to explain it is to simply offer a sampling. Here’s an image fetched from Google of three typical “tweets”.

For starters, I don’t care about your every move and step during the day. I don’t care about barrydahl’s audioconference, or wfryer’s email, or jutecht’s sleep. I especially don’t care about your cats. For the love of God, are you really that egotistical? That insecure?
Then there are problems with the site itself. I’d be hard pressed to find a more disgustingly designed “Web 2.0″ site. And the lingo? “Tweet” and “Twitter”? It’s as if some tech geeks sat around and intentionally tried to remove any hint of masculinity from the application.
Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself, “If you don’t care about what fritz’s cat is doing, just remove him from your network.” But that’s missing part of the point. fritz (never capitalized) shouldn’t be “twitting” about his damn cat in the first place.
And even if someone did actually twit (or is the verb tweet?) about something worthwhile, Twitter is far from an ideal place to do it. How about an old fashioned blog post? If it’s immediate and directed at a select few, use texting. And of course all of this assumes writing is the best method anyway. Why not pick up the phone?
At best Twitter is simply an RSS feed to the boring and idiotic aspects of your life. Just walk away and leave it to the nit-”twits”.
Josh, I’m not sure I quite get your drift here. Could you be a little more direct?
So this is what Twitter is. Yawn. I don’t care that much about every move and step I make during the day, much less anyone else’s.
Now if Twitter could monitor the minutiae of politicians and nonelected bureaucrats, that would be worth looking into.

Look, common ground.
I was about to post the same link.
Love online comics. Better than most of the stuff on TV.
Twitter is for the dumbed down masses. Whilst westerners are fast asleep believing their lives are important other countries peoples are preparing (seriously). The west quite frankly is in deep deep Sh** and its people have become so me me me its like watching a slow suicidal march to destruction. Ok, I cant and don’t just blame twitter for this, there are many facets to the probable destruction of western cultures over the next century. But one example would be the intentional break up of the family unit. We now have more single people living alone from the age of 18 to 50 going to bed with their computer typing in tweets such as “Not feeling sleepy yet” WOW, revelation, interest factor of 1000. But they are lonely, desperate and sad but don’t know it. My Space, faceache and all the rest are just as bad. Do people really think they are collecting friends on these websites? I think they do because they have never had a real friend. A friend these days is what was once called a distant acquaintance.
Heres a glimpse in to the near future (just before the west completely collapses). A hovering camera that will follow you everywhere connected to filmealways.com. Imagine it. Millions of idiots tuning in to watch some other idiot sitting on their couch watching other idiots sitting on their couch…you wait thats going to happen I guarantee it.
I hate Twitter, too. Never used it, hopefully never will. Also, Robert’s reply was excellent.
Twitter is what happens when technology is released to the masses. It takes the dumbest form possible. Just like all of these bimbos and their Vlogs. (iJustine, Ashely’s Hug Time)
What’s wrong with people these days? Robert’s reply was pretty on the money, though I know most people would never admit to it.
well, I dedicated a whole blog post to my hatred of twitter: maybe you can find some amusement/enjoyment out of it:
