Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, R.I.P.

1918 – 2008

I cannot add much to what will be monumental eulogies, except to say that one cannot always look to politicians to be the saviors of a nation; we will always rely on writers to prick our consciences.

    I picked up a used copy of “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” just last week. It is definitely moving to the front of the reading list. RIP.

    I find it more than interesting that he did not find a US publisher for his latest, Two Hundred Years Among Us. It is available in German.
