The artist here is apparently Taylor Mali, a "slam poet" and teacher. My brief YouTube search revealed some other notable performances by him as well.

That may be true for him, but how can he know that is true for me? "Conviction" is just a construct and he's using to try to show his power over me.
I just want some change I can believe in, know what I mean?
