Firefly
I just finished watching Joss Whedon's brilliant and short-lived series Firefly on DVD.
I'm sure this has been more than well-covered elsewhere on the Internet, but I feel compelled to note that Fox executives are despicable.

It seems like it has been a long time since TV offered a Western themed series. Perhaps it says something about our culture?
Have we moved on from notions of honor and duty? Is the reality TV fad temporary or in indication that we have lost our collective nobility?
Maybe it says more about us than we think that the popular show Heroes does not draw clear lines between the good-guys and the bad-guys...

Perhaps it says something about our culture, but I'm not sure how that applies to Firefly. After all, that was a show where the protagonists were admitted bad guys. And the Alliance, while certainly flawed, wasn't exactly an evil empire.

I don't know, Loren, the movie takes a few steps toward making the Alliance much more sinister, IMO.

Aside from cancellation, the worst thing Fox did was airing "The Train Job" as the season opener, rather than the two-part episode that was supposed to serve that purpose - and did a far better job of introducing the series.
One of the best ingredients to Firefly was the Simon/River relationship. Romance is done all the time, but sibling love doesn't get enough screen time.
