Saddle the white horse
The Politico, quickly becoming one of the must-reads for political information and punditry, reports former Sen. Fred Thompson is gearing up for a presidential campaign:
Fred Thompson, the "Law & Order" actor and former senator from Tennessee, has moved beyond pondering a bid for the White House and begun assembling the nucleus of a campaign should he decide to run, according to people involved in the effort.
Thompson has not yet decided to seek the Republican presidential nomination. But "he is getting more serious every day," said an adviser familiar with Thompson's plans.
CNN has a short piece on
Thompson on the issues.

(Shouldn't that be a _dark_ horse, or have I misremembered the relevant metaphor?)

Well I was referring to Thompson as a shining knight on a white horse. He's preparing his horse to ride in to save us. Besides, he's too popular to be a dark horse candidate.
