How Quaint
So technological improvements can spare the environment, and developed countries are re-foresting. But if this op-ed is to be believed (it was also published in the WSJ) Germans are flocking to wood-burning fireplaces. Guess why.

For what it's worth, most of the fuel for modern wood-burning stoves is made from the waste from the timber industry. The linked article also makes mention of this.
Of course, if the demand is high enough to exhaust the waste stream, trees may be harvested specificaly for fuel. And then, of course, there's the air quality issue.
