Maybe He Should Kiss a Koran
In response to being labeled evil and inhuman by a dead Byzantine emperor, a group of Muslims did what anyone would do in that situation: They firebombed two churches in the West Bank. -- The Dilbert Blog
I don't feel too compelled to defend Benedict XVI from the violent crybabies in the Muslim Street, but I wonder whether this incident will prompt some clarification on the Roman infatuation with univeralism.

I'm waiting for someone to use the "Muslims Discover Pope is Catholic" headline.

David --
Beat you to it.
Honestly, how can anyone take these radicals seriously? "My religion is not violent," they scream. "And if you disagree, I'll kill you."

No doubt; but if the Pope was going to apologize, he should have done it correctly.

Apology means one thing to liberal democrats but quite another thing in theology.

I'm well aware of the traditional definition and root of the word "apology," thank you. (It means "defense," traditionally; the root Greek means, effectively, "away from (or without) words.")
But what the Pope offered on Sunday was hardly an apology of either the traditional type or in the modern sense. As I argue here, "I'm sorry you got mad about what I did" is probably more offensive than no apology at all.
And if you're saying that the Pope's comments on Sunday constitute a defense of what he said about Islam, then what a weak Pope he is! Defending a statement by distancing oneself from it? Pshaw. If he really thinks those things and wants to defend them, he should point out some of the things that are brought up by both Seth and the commentors in this post.
Thus: it doesn't matter if you say poh-TAY-toh or poh-TAH-toh, you're still wrong, Anonymous.
(And me a liberal democrat? That's rich.)
