Kentucky: 'Where Education Pays'

Political bloggers "have joined pornographers, casinos and hate groups" on Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher's (R) "list of Web sites that state employees are blocked from visiting," reports the Louisville Courier-Journal. The Lexington Herald Leader adds, "The ban sent the political sector of the cyber world into a tizzy, attracting attention from national blogs, some of which were added throughout the day to the list of sites state workers couldn't access." We have no word yet on the fate of ITA.

When you're at work, you're supposed to use your computer for work-related things. Granted, everybody taken an unscheduled break for a minute here or there, but I see no problem with blocking ANY site that isn't work-related.

"everybody taken" should be "everybody takes".

I agree with you, but there's a valid question here about what is "work-related." For at least some people in the government, particularly policymakers and lobbyists, political blogs not only could, but in my opinion should be accessible due to the fact that they offer both information and alternative points of view on the issues du jour.

This, of course, has nothing to do with lofty issues like "the freedom to surf the internet at work," but I think it's a fairly pragmatic response.
