Maryland recently passed a law aimed at requiring Wal-Mart to spend more on health insurance. This is an extremely flawed path to healthcare reform. We need universal coverage, not piecemeal legislation designed to punish companies because they operate differently than their competitors.

Heh, indeedy.

Don't you think that universal health care coverage should come after universal gasoline being provided by the government?

Health insurance should be like auto insurance. You pay $x amount a year but there is a deductible. Thus, until you exceed the deductible, you pay out of pocket. This would make Health Savings Accounts more useful.

This may drive down demand as well as high costs of care. Of course, hospitals, docs, and corporations making profit on our current system would aggressively fight this option.
