When in asia, beware counterfeit cerveza

A rather amusing example of the state of intellectual property in some Asian nations–not only is that DVD of MI 3 being sold by a street vendor probably pirated, but you must make sure you don’t mistakenly purchase “Cerono” instead of Corona.

This isn’t just in Asia. Next time you’re shopping for Robitussin cough syrup at Long’s drugs, make sure you don’t buy Super Tussin or Safe Tussin or Scot Tussin. Most of the generic copycat drugs have packaging that looks confusingly similar to their brand-name counterparts.

Good point. I do think “Cerono” might be on shaky grounds in the US as far as trademark infringement, however. I can usually distinguish generic OTC drug packaging from brand-name at a glance, but “Cerono’s” labeling is extremely similar to the real deal.

  3. Why would you want to waste your time drinking Corona anyway? ;-)

Because it’s much cheaper than Newcastle or Guinness.
