Rick Santorum on Intelligent Design

  • "Therefore, intelligent design is a legitimate scientific theory that should be taught in science classes." - 2002 Washington Times op-ed article

  • "I'm not comfortable with intelligent design being taught in the science classroom."
    - Interview in August 2005 on National Public Radio

  • "I do not believe it should be required teaching."
    - Interview Dec. 21, 2005 with The Inquirer

  • "I thought the Thomas More Law Center made a huge mistake in taking this case and in pushing this case to the extent they did."
    - from Inquirer interview
The above quotes are taken from the Philadelphia Inquirer, which notes that Santorum sits on the advisory board of the Thomas More Law Center, the group that brought the Dover lawsuit. He intends to withdraw his affiliation.

Rick is one of my senators, and he's a pretty good guy, but this isn't the first time that he has wavered when it seemed politically expedient to do so, and with a tough race coming up in '06 against Bobby Casey, it won't be the last.

To add to the absurdity of it all, Santorum is one of the primary benefactors of Judge John Jones III. And he is the one behind the infamous "Santorum Amendment". But his hypocrisy is no less obvious than the Discovery Institute's, which tried mightily to get school boards to teach ID and then changed strategies and is now pretending that they never meant it in the first place.
