A Long Way From Stockholm
The winners of the 2005 Ig Nobel Prizes were announced last week at the 15th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony at Harvard University.
Although many of the prizes were awarded for technical work, anyone with an email account can appreciate this year's Ig Nobel Prize for Literature, which was awarded to "The Internet entrepreneurs of Nigeria, for creating and then using e-mail to distribute a bold series of short stories, thus introducing millions of readers to a cast of rich characters ... each of whom requires just a small amount of expense money so as to obtain access to the great wealth to which they are entitled and which they would like to share with the kind person who assists them."

I hold in my hand, a $3000 "cashiers check" from Nigeria for the purchase of one server cabinet I am trying to sell on Craigslist. This delightful souvenir is the result of reading many all caps emails and awaiting my "payment" shipped via FedEx from Nigeria.
I should frame this check.
In all seriousness, I cannot fathom someone being taken in by the cashiers check fraud. The check I received is horrible. I cannot imagine a bank being able to process this past its first check reader.
