Vicarious Hypocrisy

Two North Carolina PETA employees have been charged with cruelty to animals after investigators were able to attribute at least 31 dead animals to the duo. The charges include 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals.
I’m not that surprised, because the frustration of not being able to feed a bunch of animals or find homes for them drives vets and shelters to euthanize every day. But for PETA employees to take unwanted animals from legitimate groups and say they will take care of them, and then “take care” of them, is outrageous.

Adam, why the “vicarious”? The hypocrisy here seems real enough … perhaps “_vicious_ hypocrisy” would have worked as a title.

PETA didn’t actually do anything – it was 2 people who happen to be employees of PETA, using a PETA van. At this point, I would be hesitant to attribute this slaughter to PETA on any theory of direct responsibility.

It reminds ne of the I Love Lucy episode in which Luch and Ethel are working on the candy assembly line. They just couldn’t keep up.
