Indiana University Alumni Trustee Election II

Pat Shoulders was elected to a second term. It wasn’t even close — not that the next two runners up were at all impressive either. This speaks rather poorly of my fellow alumni (or at least the approximately 9% that bothered to return a ballot).

  1. In spite of the negatives you offered in an earlier post, I still like Pat. (On a side note, catch me on his weekly television show next Thursday as a guest.) ;)

I have a favorable impression of him too, and that must be part of the problem. He’s very visible to a portion of IU alums, he’s a well respected lawyer in one of the state’s biggest cities, and he’s a pretty good guy. I’m not an IU guy and I don’t pay attention to his actions (or inactions?) as trustee, but people like that tend to get re-elected to positions that few people care about, regardless of whether they should.

When can we expect the announcement for Claybourn/Musgrave trustee campaign?

You can only have one trustee per county, but Mr. Musgrave moving to New York will remove that problem.

I like my alumni email account. I wouldn’t like campaigning among my fellow alumni (ideas like “Tuition–higher, please!”, “Sell the football stadium” and “Professors of dull subjects–more needed” are hardly crowd pleasers).
