For those wondering what the president was up to during the middle of a work day, the Washington Post reports Bush also took some reading with him: “In a photo taken just after the ride, Bush is holding what appears to be a copy of I Am Charlotte Simmons, the Tom Wolfe novel about debauchery on a college campus.”

  • Basketball Diaries: Hoosier Reflections on Reggie Miller” [Fox News]: Hoosier native Radley Balko pens an ode to one of Indiana’s greatest professional basketball players. The Pacers have taken a 2-1 lead in their series with the Detroit Pistons.
  • The Daily Show Blogs” [Daily Show via Crooks and Liars]: Quite possibly one of the funniest bits on blogging. This is a must watch for denizens of the blogosphere.
  • Japan to Honor Wartime Emperor” [Washington Post]: Japan’s legislature, the National Diet, approved yesterday a bill creating a national holiday to honor the country’s wartime emperor, the long-serving monarch known in the West as Hirohito (for more on the monarch, his name, and his reign, see Wikipedia). Opposition lawmakers criticized the bill, supported by the administration of assertive Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, for promoting a more nationalist view of Japan. Japan’s relationship with its wartime past has been a source of controversy in its relations with South Korea and the People’s Republic of China, especially over the past several months.
