Deer Porn

A pair of amorous deer have appeared on the south lawn of IUPUI's brand-new Herron Art School building just west of Downtown Indianapolis, which ought to ruffle a few community-standards feathers in the conservative state capitol.

I've yet to go take a look, and the picture on WTHR's website leaves a lot to the imagination, so I will save the mock outrage until I see for myself if the sculpture truly captures the essence of Bambi does Dallas.

My first thought is that it's not offensive--it's silly. Deer don't mate like that. They mate like this. (Link is to a yellow road sign featuring a silhouette of deer mating--probably SFW, but use your own judgement.) The sculpture reminds me of The Far Side...animals behaving like humans. But maybe that's the point?

Holy cow! Where can a person find photos of the whole statue?

I'm a Herron student and have seen the statue in real life. People have to remember that art is subjective, but that is not the point. The point is that this piece of art puts Indianapolis on the map of controversy. We're not just know for corn and race cars anymore. Look out Boston!!
