Sully News

Andrew Sullivan, a giant among pundits online now in his fifth year of blogging, has “decided to put the blog as you’ve known it on hiatus for a few months.” He goes into more detail here. He’ll still post, but much more rarely. Sullivan’s regular voice will be missed by thousands. [Update: And not missed by many others.]
In other blogging news, unrelated to Sullivan, Stones Cry Out is a new group blog made up of five previously independent writers.

    Joshua,
Thanks for the shout-out for the new site. It will be interesting to see if Sullivan can keep away from the blog. I’ve resolved to quit blogging several times–only to return the same day, and I’ve only been doing it for six months. It’s hard to hold back.

And not missed by thousands more.

One thing that Sullivan has done right, and that ITA might learn from, is to eliminate comments in favor of encouraging letters, and publishing a selection of the letters received. As ITA attracts more and more trolls and comments increasingly are back-and-forth nitpicking, Andy’s approach kept the focus on articulate expression of points of view and away from backbiting and sound bites.
