Correction

Paul Krugman has corrected his Friday NYT column (mentioned here and here on ITA) where he used an erroneous Washington Post story that was later corrected on the WashPo website. The erroneous article, and Krugman’s column, incorrectly described Social Security personalization as a “loan.” He writes, not on the NYT, but on Atrios’ site, “My column this morning wasn’t the finest – sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn’t.” Indeed.
Meanwhile Radley Balko offers a fascinating post about retractions and their effectiveness in our minds. Muy interesante.

the only difference in the word choice of loan is one of normative significance.
PK did go over board in his original article, but that doesn’t change the fact that what is in contest here is whether people should have the right to have more say-so over the investment of their money normally held in the Social Security Trust Fund for them prior to retirement/withdrawals.
