SS Social Security Redux
This Paul Krugman column was the subject of much discussion here yesterday. Tom Maguire offers a healthy, smart response in detail to Krugman. It's a great post, and I highly recommend it to those interested in OASDI.

We used to call it FICA.
I'm proposing "Individual Security" as we do away with the "Social" part of the program.
Anyway, I just finished a post arguing more nuanced, but less popular parts of the debate, but maybe you can find something to think about.
Just an invitation for those who are interested.

Maguire's comment about how the privatizers aren't talking about the disability benefit might carry more weight if there weren't so many conservatives whose real desire is the complete elimination of Social Security. I don't hear those folks speaking of leaving anything intact. I see them trying to justify the idea of privatizing that as well.

I'm with Jim S here. We don't have a plan yet; just a succession of statements that will eventually converge upon a plan. The fact is, nobody outside the Bush Administration has any idea what Social Security Deform portends for disability benefits.
Other than the strong desire of many conservatives to kill the whole thing, of course.
