This from John Lott:
Last month, the National Academy of Sciences issued a 328-page report on gun control laws. . .
Based on 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, and some of its own empirical work, the panel couldn’t identify a single gun control regulation that reduced violent crime, suicide or accidents.
[...]
The study was not the work of gun-control opponents. The panel was set up during the Clinton administration, and of its members whose views on guns were publicly known before their appointments all but one had favored gun control. . .

Another reason that Gun control does not work.
OK call me a raving liberal or whatever but how come the USA has both the most liberal gun laws AND the highest gun-crime rates in the world (or is that just an urban myth?)
Over here our cops dont even carry guns routinely and if they do get shot or have to shoot someone it usually makes national news.
Are we just nicer people than you lot or is it coz we have less guns I wonder?
Gun control works?
Adrian Warnock is disapproving of a piece by josh Claybourn of In the Agora which quoted a recent guntrol study which appears to show that
Adrian,
I might point out that our rates of burglary, petty theft (I never have to worry about pickpockets) and a number of other crime rates are much lower than in England. I might also point out that the last time I was there (~5 yrs ago), I talked with some cops and they all said that they wanted to carry guns because they were routinely being faced with criminals who were armed and willing to use force. This was several years after the handgun ban. As a sidenote, you had more homicides by handgun after the ban than before. Another note, there are countries with more liberal gun laws (such as Switzerland) with lower crime rates.
I would suggest you check out http://www.gunfacts.info and read through their factbook (which is heavily footnoted) before you make any assertions. I assure you it will be worth yout time.
