Acronyms

Can we stop using "SS" for Social Security? I know it's intuitive, and I know I've used it myself, but the connotations are...all wrong. Nazi death squads versus social insurance--no. Instead, I'll use OASDI--Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance, the official name for the "Social Security" programme.

Great idea.

While we're at it, we can change the name from Social Security to Individual Security. That seems to be the direction it's headed. The various species of IRA's and 401-K's don't seem adequate, it seems.

Check stubs once listed FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act), but that vanished some time ago, probably because of someone's notion of political correctness.
