Welcome to In The Agora

I’m Paul Musgrave, and I’m a grad student in politics living in Dublin while attending courses at University College Dublin. I have my own website, but when Josh suggested forming In The Agora, I was more than happy to join up. Josh and I have been blogging together since we were at university together and helped to launch the new Hoosier Review.
My goals for ITA are simple. I want this to be a blog that challenges conventional opinion, both mainstream and rightwing, while offering new and thought-provoking perspectives on issues international, domestic, and apolitical. I’ve long thought that paying too much attention to politics drains the interest from the rest of life–Drudge and blogs can turn the news into an addiction not unlike heroin, where we’re all craving the next scandal so we can get another punditry fix. But there are topics in life that aren’t political, at least to a first approximation. I find it’s productive to talk about–or at least contemplate–those topics every once in a while.

I guess “mainstream” and “rightwing” are the only two kinds of conventional opinion that need to be challenged.

  2. Thanks for the contribultion to the blogosphere. Please check out our contribution to the discussion of the future of the opposition party.
    I like your work!

    Paul,
Outstanding blogsite. I’m here in the DC area and linked to it by my favorite blogger, Andrew Sullivan.
I really like the aethetics of the site, and it does seem like a magazine as such, such as Andrew said.
Contratulations. Hey, I’m a good part Irish, and I’ve never been to the mother country, but I intend to soon.
All the best to you. Thanks for letting me post here. I will put you on my favorites list.
    Sincerely,
    Phil Sadler.

Ha! This is the downside of working without an editor.
